The AAN President appoints task forces to address timely issues impacting the AAN and neurology. Task forces often provide a range of recommendations in their reports. The Board of Directors approves the report, and the process of determining which recommendations will be implemented moves on to AAN committees and staff leadership.
In 2016, AAN President Terrence L. Cascino, MD, FAAN appointed the Gender Disparity Task Force to study issues related to the disparities between female and male neurologists including compensation, professional advancement, leadership opportunities, and work/life balance. The task force presented recommendations to the Board of Directors in February 2017 for strategies to improve the identified disparities.
