Measure Purpose: Ensure patients with neurologic conditions have had information explained by their provider in a way that was easy to understand.
The numerator: Patients or care partners who answered “Always”
is divided by
The denominator: Patients or care partners who answered the question “In the last 6 months, how often did this provider explain things in a way that was easy to understand?”.
Exclusions are removed from the denominator:
- Patients who (at the time of survey) are unable to communicate AND do not have a care partner available to provide information.

Measure Calculation Example
Dr. Bautista has 100 patients or care partners between January 1 and December 31 that completed a survey with the question: “In the last 6 months, how often did this provider explain things in a way that was easy to understand?”. This is the denominator.
Of the 100 patients or care partners, 38 replied “always” to the survey question. The numerator is 38.
Quality of patient care = 38/100. Dr. Bautista has a score of 38% for this measure.
