The denominator: All patients diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD)
Exclusions are removed from the denominator for:
- Medical contraindication
- Patient already on corticosteroid
- May not be medically appropriate depending upon functional capability, age, and existing risk factors
- Patient or caregiver decline
- Patient has no insurance to cover prescription and cannot afford it

Measure Calculation Example
Dr. Green had 20 patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy between January 1 and December 31 of the measurement year. This is the denominator. One patient has a contraindication for disease-modifying therapy and one patient is already on a corticosteroid. These patients are removed from the denominator.
Of the remaining 18 patients, 13 were prescribed disease-modifying therapy. This is the numerator.
Quality of care = 13/(20-2). Dr. Green has a score of 72% for this measure.
