Concussion Symptoms Evaluation
Measure purpose: To assess and reduce concussion symptoms
The numerator: Patients who had a symptom evaluation* completed at initial visit
*Evaluation tools include: Child-SCAT, HBI, PCSI, PCSS, RPQ, SCAT

The denominator: All patients > 5 years of age diagnosed with concussion
Exclusions are removed from the denominator for:
- Patient and/or caregiver unable to report symptoms (non-verbal)
- Patient and/or caregiver refusal

Measure Calculation Example
Dr. Green had 50 patients between January 1 and December 31 with a diagnosis of concussion that were over the age of 5. This is the denominator.
One patient declined the assessment and one patient was non-verbal and could not be assessed. These two patients are excluded from the denominator. The denominator is now 48 (50-2).
18 patients had a symptoms evaluation completed during their initial visit with Dr. Green. This is the numerator.
Quality of patient care = 18/(50-2). Dr. Green has a score of 37% for this measure.
