Assessment of Sleep Disturbances

Measure purpose: Ensure patients with PD are queried annually about sleep disturbances. 

The numerator: patients with a diagnosis of Parkinson's disease (PD) (or caregivers, as appropriate) who were queried about sleep disturbances.*

*Sleep disturbances are defined as excessive daytime sleepiness, insomnia/fragmentation (including nocturnal motor features), dream enactment/REM Sleep behavior symptoms, Restless Leg Syndrome, or sleep disorder breathing (obstructive sleep apnea).

Measure Calculation Example

Dr. Okar sees 100 patients between January 1 and December 31 that were diagnosed with PD. This is the denominator. 

Of the 100 patients, Dr. Okar queried 33 patients about sleep disturbances. This is the numerator.

Quality of patient care = 33/100. Dr. Okar has a score of 33% for this measure.
