Wellness Subcommittee

The Wellness Subcommittee, reporting to the Member Engagement Committee, provides strategic direction on overall wellness efforts, programs, and services, as well as advising the Academy on the optimal local, state, national, and international policies as it relates to addressing the factors contributing to member burnout, including regulatory hassles, excessive workloads, loss of autonomy, lack of recognition of professionalism, clerical burden, inadequate support staff, and poor work-life balance.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Develops a collaborative approach to wellness that includes elevating the career satisfaction of members through demonstrating the value of neurology and removing barriers to finding meaning in one’s work.
  • Determines strategies for continuous assessment (data collection) and analysis of burnout and professional engagement in members.
  • Guides the Academy on how to highlight current endeavors as “anti-burnout.“
  • Serves as an advisory board on the Academy’s overall wellness strategy, including advising on the wellness impact of national and technological trends.
  • Assists AAN committee leaders in identifying and highlighting how their committee goals may have the potential to reduce burnout.
  • Coordinate wellness efforts across the Academy.
  • Collaborate with other organizations to advocate for and develop solutions to mitigate burnout and promote well-being.
  • Develop additional resources to address the issue of burnout and well-being at the work unit and organizational levels, including the evolution of the Live Well, Lead Well Leadership Program.
  • Develop and disseminate personalized mitigation resources for trainees and program directors.
  • Continue to evaluate well-being and career satisfaction among AAN members, including important subgroups of our membership.
  • Develop wellness programming related to the AAN Annual Meeting, including any Experiential Learning Areas (ELAs), course proposals, etc.
  • Oversees the identification of resources (internal and external) and the continued advancement of AAN.com/LiveWell, as the digital home for all AAN wellness resources.

Meeting Schedule

  • Attend three virtual meetings each year.
  • Participate in email votes as relevant issues arise throughout the term

Estimated Time Commitment

Two hours per month plus meetings.
