DIVERSITY OFFICER SUBCOMMITTEE
DESCRIPTION
The Diversity Officer Subcommittee of the Academic Neurology Committee is responsible for developing opportunities and resources for Diversity Officers to focus on issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion that affect staff, trainees, and faculty.
Chair: Andrew R. Spector, MD, FAAN
Staff Liaison: Wendy Vokaty, Associate Director, Leadership and EDI
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and assess needs of Diversity Officers across the country
- Help Academic Neurology Departments address IDEAS
- Support the development of IDEAS metrics and recognition program for academic departments
- Develop manuscripts, resources, and programs
- Address overall academic leadership and advancement issues
- Collaborate with the EDI JCC
- Collaborate with AAN Committees and Subcommittees as needed
- Collaborate with outside groups as appropriate
Selection/Appointment
The Chair and members of the Subcommittee are appointed by the AAN President.
Meeting Schedule
The Subcommittee will meet virtually once quarterly.
Estimated Time Commitment
Approximately 2-4 hours per month (including email correspondence), plus meetings (the meetings will be virtual).
Subcommittee Composition
Subcommittee composition may include the following members:
- 6-8 Diversity Officers – representing diversity and gender, geographic diversity, departmental size diversity (small, medium, large), adult and child neurology department representation
- 1-2 Academic Neurology Business Administrator(s)
