Job Description
The Department Chair Subcommittee of the Academic Neurology Committee is responsible for providing guidance and developing opportunities and resources for Department Chairs to support their leadership and strategic directions for the clinical, research, and academic activities.

Vice Chair: Laurie Gutmann, MD, FAAN
Staff Liaison: Lauren Klaffke, PhD, Academic Neurology Program Manager
Responsibilities
- Evaluate and assess needs of Department Chairs across the country
- Develop programs and resources for Department Chairs
- Plan and implement the Chair Summit
- Help Academic Neurology Departments address IDEAS
- Develop manuscripts, resources, and programs
- Address overall academic leadership and advancement issues
- Collaborate with the EDI JCC
- Collaborate with AAN Committees and Subcommittees as needed
- Collaborate with outside group as appropriate
Selection/Appointment
The Chair and members of the Subcommittee are appointed by the AAN President.
Meeting Schedule
The Subcommittee will meet virtually once quarterly.
Estimated Time Commitment
Approximately 2-4 hours per month (including email correspondence), plus meetings (the meetings will be virtual).
Subcommittee Composition
Subcommittee composition may include the following members:
- 10-12 Department Chairs – representing diversity and gender, geographic diversity, departmental size diversity (small, medium, large), adult and child neurology department representation
- Chair of Academic Neurology Committee
- Chair of Academic Neurology Business Administrator Work Group
- 1-2 Academic Neurology Business Administrator(s) (representing different size departments)
