advancing women in academics subcommittee
DESCRIPTION
The Advancing Women in Academics Subcommittee is a subcommittee of the Academic Neurology Committee. This subcommittee is responsible for addressing issues facing women at all levels in academic neurology, including, but not limited to, promotion, compensation, and department environments.

Vice Chair: Deborah Hall, MD, PhD, FAAN
Staff Liaison: Lauren Klaffke, PhD, Academic Neurology Program Manager
Responsibilities
- Create programs and resources to help promote women to leadership positions
- Work to close the pay differential
- Work to eliminate sexual and gender harassment
- Work to improve institutional climates
- Collaborate with the Academic Neurology Committee and its Diversity Officers Subcommittee
- Collaborate with the EDI JCC and Leadership Development Subcommittee and other Committees and Subcommittees as needed
Selection/Appointment
The Chair and members of the Subcommittee are appointed by the AAN President.
Meeting Schedule
The Subcommittee will meet virtually once quarterly.
Estimated Time Commitment
Approximately 2-4 hours per month (including email correspondence), plus meetings (the meetings will be virtual).
Subcommittee Composition
Subcommittee composition may include the following members:
- 8-10 Academic Neurologists – representing diversity and gender, geographic diversity, and departmental size (small, medium, large)
- 1-2 Advanced Practice Provider(s)
- 1-2 Academic Neurology Business Administrator(s)
