About

Neurology education coordinators are essential to the success of neurology training programs and clerkships. They face many challenges in the administration of a training program including annual reporting, evolving program requirements, limited resources, and clinical missions that compete for time and resources with the education mission. This award is intended to acknowledge the coordinator's essential role and recognize those whose creativity and innovation contributed to the future of neurology.

Timeline

• Applications open: June 25, 2024
• Applications close: October 31, 2024, at 11:59 p.m. CT

Eligibility 

Applicants must be a current residency, fellowship, or clerkship program coordinator with at least two years’ experience in that role. Coordinators may have many different titles (e.g., program administrator, residency coordinator, manager, assistant director). The title is often institution or program dependent. Generally, the role supports the physician residency or fellowship program director or clerkship director, manages the day-to-day operations of the residency or fellowship program medical student clinical program, and is actively involved in the critical functions of the program.  

Applicants are encouraged to be a member of and/or show participation in a Coordinator Association or work group. The program coordinator may actively participate at a national level in program coordinators’ association (e.g., TAGME or other national meetings), or local institutional graduate medical education committees. It is understood that not all coordinators will have the resources to travel to national meetings.  

All applications will be considered equally regardless of gender or race/ethnicity. Candidates can nominate themselves or be nominated. Posthumous nominations will not be accepted.  

Benefits 

Annually, two (2) residency program coordinators, two (2) fellowship program coordinators, and two (2) clerkship coordinators will be selected to receive a certificate of recognition by the AAN.  

Recipients will be acknowledged at the Consortium of Neurology Program Directors (CNPD), Consortium of Neurology Clerkship Directors (CNCD), and Consortium of Neurology Education Coordinators (CNEC) Business Meetings.

• Online application that demonstrates the following: 
  • How the applicant enhanced medical education within their program  
  • How the applicant promoted communication among coordinators, program directors, faculty, and trainees 
  • Examples of an important improvement for the program  
  • Confirmation of support from:  
    • DIO or chair or Dean 
    • Program/Fellowship/Clerkship director  
    • Current or recent trainee(s)
