TELEHEALTH SUBCOMMITTEE
Telehealth Subcommittee of the Medical Economics and Practice Committee promotes the use of telehealth to improve neurologic patient care. The subcommittee, in collaboration with the Medical Economics and Practice Committee and other committees and subcommittees, will coordinate the AAN’s initiatives to develop and implement evidence-based policies and procedures to support telehealth. These include coverage, coding, documentation, and reimbursement policies; quality measures; legal and liability issues; advocacy positions; and optimal workflow and technology infrastructure

Committee Responsibilities
The subcommittee’s work will ensure that telehealth for neurologic patients:
- Is a high-value method of patient care that
- Increases patient and provider satisfaction
- Improves health care access, quality, and outcomes
- Improves provider well-being
- Decreases health care costs
- Addresses social determinates of health and reduces disparities
The subcommittee will:
- Identify and provide expertise on advocacy/policy issues that concern
- Understand the evolving telehealth landscape and recognize opportunities for innovation
- Educate members on the effective implementation and practice of telehealth
- Ensure the highest level of neurologic care using telehealth technologies
Member Responsibilities
- Attend one in-person meeting per year and three to five conference calls (unless invited to attend as a virtual seat member in which case all virtual meeting attendance is expected.)
- Participate in the subcommittee listserv discussions, provide input on timely issues, check and respond to email at least once a week.
- Serve as liaison to other medical specialty societies or organizations. This may include, but is not limited to, overseeing aspects of the collaboration, attending meetings of the collaborating group, and guiding projects through the AAN approval process.
- Coordinate with other committees as needed to complete telehealth-related priorities.
- Copy AAN staff on all subcommittee-related correspondence.
- Submit status reports to AAN staff prior to the agenda deadline for each subcommittee meeting and provide a report to the full Subcommittee at the meeting.
- Participate in committee initiatives as such arise.
Selection/Appointment
Appointments are made by the AAN President.
Meeting Schedule
The Subcommittee meets in person one time per year. The subcommittee also has hour-long phone meetings approximately four times a year.
Estimated Time Commitment
Ten hours per month, one face-to-face meeting, and the remaining work takes place by email and/or conference calls.

Subcommittee includes 14 members with telemedicine expertise, including the following:
- Business Administrators
- Advanced Practice Providers
- Blend of academics, private practice
