Purpose: Guide research and share insights.
The Member Research Subcommittee (MRS) provides insights about AAN constituents by advising on the need for and assisting in the development, design, implementation, and communication of surveys and studies that benefit the Academy and its members.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the prioritization process of data collection projects.
- Provide constructive and timely feedback and critique to developing research projects.
- Assist in improving the research process and the utility and quality of research data.
- Review and contribute to the development of the Insights Report or other reports as needed.
- Coordinate ongoing member research needs such as an AAN-wide member loyalty survey.
- Attend two MRS meetings each year:
- One two-hour meeting at AAN Annual Meeting.
- One full-day meeting in the fall of each year.
- Review and contribute to the development of 15-20 AAN surveys a year (one half-hour per survey); members will review an AAN survey every few weeks.
Selection/Appointment
Appointments are made by the AAN president. Members should be representative of AAN membership, with one or two members well-versed in research methodology.
Meeting Schedule
- AAN Annual Meeting.
- A meeting each fall to determine highlights from prior year research and prioritize next year's research submissions.
- Participate in teleconferences during the year as needed.
Estimated Time Commitment
35 hours per year: two face-to-face meetings, and remaining business will take place by email and phone calls

Members should be representative of AAN membership, with one or two members well-versed in research methodology. There are eight members on the subcommittee.
