Glen R. Finney, MD, FAAN, visited Washington, DC, in April to participate in BrainPAC’s Lobbyist for a Day program. While in DC, he accompanied the AAN’s Congressional Affairs team to meetings and events on Capitol Hill to discuss AAN advocacy priority issues. Focuses of the team's efforts this spring include the Safe Step Act and telehealth flexibility.
Finney is an experienced AAN advocate who has attended Neurology on the Hill for many years and maintains a strong relationship with his local congressional representative. As the former chair of the BrainPAC Committee, he is well-versed in how BrainPAC amplifies the voice of neurology on Capitol Hill. With the Lobbyist for a Day program, he got to see it firsthand!

Federal Trade Commission Votes to Ban Non-Compete Agreements
On April 23, the Federal Trade Commission voted in favor of a new regulation that would ban non-compete agreements nationwide, outside of a limited set of circumstances. This rule, once implemented, is expected to significantly impact the health care workforce and associated contracting practices. The AAN is working to develop resources to help members understand how this rule may impact neurology practices and providers.
AAN Releases 'Excited Delirium' Position Statement
AAN has released a position statement on "Excited Delirium" emphasizing that the current body of evidence does not support the use of the term as a medical diagnosis.
AAN to Host Conrad 30 Congressional Briefing
The AAN will host a congressional briefing in celebration of the 30th Anniversary of the Conrad 30 Program on May 8 in the US Capitol Building. The AAN is leading this effort in conjunction with the American Medical Association and Physicians for American Healthcare Access in support of the Conrad State 30 and Physician Access Reauthorization Act (H.R. 4942/S. 665), which would help improve the neurology workforce. Multiple members of Congress are slated to speak at the briefing—as well as two AAN members, David Watson, MD, FAAN, and Umer Najib, MD, FAAN—to discuss the importance of the program and legislation. Support your colleagues and this important initiative by urging your legislators to cosponsor the Conrad State 30 and Physician Access Reauthorization Act.
AAN Submits Letter of Support to Rhode Island State Legislature
The AAN submitted a letter of support to the Rhode Island State Legislature in support of An Act Relating to Insurance - Benefit Determination and Utilization Review Act (S.B. 2611), ahead of the bill's hearing in the state's Senate Health and Human Services Committee. If passed, this bill would allow exceptions to step therapy determinations for immediate permitted coverage if the step the insurer requires is contraindicated or expected to cause an adverse reaction, had been tried and found to be ineffective, is expected to be ineffective, will delay or prevent necessary care, or will disrupt the patient’s current effective drug regimen.
